The Da Vinci Code depicts the series of events following the murder of Jacques Saunière the curator of the Louvre in Paris. It tells of the struggles faced by Robert Landon and Sophie Neveu in trying to find Jacques killer but most importantly decipher the hidden messages left by Jacques through the plethora of clues left by him in hidden text and the places it led them. Being a master of double meanings his messages constantly provided clues for there quest. His messages led them to many of Da Vinci’s paintings, though France and England searching for the final destination of his clues. To discover the world’s greatest secret.

The clues left by Jacques Saunière’s embarked them on a thrilling chase that led them to discover Jacques and The Priory of Sion’s many deep and powerful secrets. The information had been coveted by Church and was protected even to death by the Priory of Sion. The information was so powerful that it could change the modern day world. The Priory was a secret organization that was lead by men such as Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci. They had protected this historical secret with there lives. It had been protected for hundreds of years by the Priory. The night Saunière was killed, Robert Landon and Sophie Neveu was given clues to locate and guard this treasure. Saunière had positioned his body in the shape of the Vitruvian Man, by Leonardo Da Vinci. On his stomach he had made the shape of the Pentacle, an upside down star, with the blood from his bullet wound. Next to his body he had written text, text that would unveil his greatest kept information. Written there was 13-3-2-21-1-1-8-5, O, Draconian devil! Oh, lame saint! He was shown this by the Head of the French police Fache. Also called in was Sophie Neveu, a cryptologist for the french police. She later revealed that Fache had suspected that Landon was the killer. Landon and Saunière were supposed to meet the night of his murder, this made him look like a likely suspect to Fache. She showed im the initial photograph of the text it read 13-3-2-21-1-1-8-5, O, Draconian devil! Oh, lame saint! P.S. Find Robert Landon. They escaped the cops and made there way back to the body. Sophie had recalled memories she had with her grandfather in the museum, mainly the room containing the Mona Lisa. Once they made there way to the room they gazed at the painting. When pointing the back light on the glass words began to emerge. This text led them to the painting right across the room. Behind it she discovered a gold key, marked with the Priory’s sign. There quest for the secret began.

Dan Brown is one of today’s biggest and best authors. With many best sellers such as Angles and Demons, Digital Fortress, Deception Point, and The Da Vinci Code. Through out The Da Vinci Code Brown used the element of suspense to keep his reader hooked and wanting to read on. Brown ends many of his chapters with unfinished scenes, for example “ Do not react to this massage. Just listen calmly. You are in danger right now. Follow my directions very closely”, “ O, Draconian devil! Oh, lame saint, was a perfect anagram of... Leonardo Da Vinci, The Mona Lisa”, and “ Face’s blood was boiling as he typed the numbers 4...5...4". Brown will mention specific events but not explain then until much later in the book. For instance he explains Sophie and her grandfather’s relationship, and how it was negative due to the encounter she had at her grandfather’s house. Brown dose not give an explanation of what happened to make there relationship turn bad. Brown also uses a lot descriptive language “ The polished wooden box was about the size of a shoe box and had orange hinges. The wood was a lustrous deep purple with a strong gain, Rosewood”. His writing styles make his reader want to continue. He put the reader in the story, and this makes him one of the best writers today.

The Da Vinci Code was a very well written and phenomenal book. Through the Da Vinci Code Brown creates an alternate meaning to many historical events. I really enjoyed reading this book for three reasons. First, it made you think. Brown would leave bits of information through the book regarding their quest. He would not connect these pieces of information for a few chapters, allowing you the reader to try and figure it out on your own. Secondly, although it was long and gave the reader the opportunity to conclude many of the clues, it was not a hard book to read. Brown created an amazing book and story but made it so that many people would be able to enjoy it despite having to have a very high reading level. Thirdly, the story was very good. Brown was able to take many historical events and landmarks use them and make a story around them. This helped in making the book feel lifelike and real. This is most definitely the best book I have ever read.

In conclusion The Da Vinci Code is about the quest of Robert Landon and Sophie Neveu trying yo find the many lost secrets left by Jacques Saunière. The use the written text that ly next to his body to link them to the world’s greatest secret. This book is a beautifully written novel. It combines many historical events with the fiction of Dan Brown. His writing styles draw the reader in and hook them using suspense. This is the best book I have ever read and I recommend it to all reading preferences and anyone who wants to enjoy a great novel.
